BATON ROUGE - A man who crashed into an Iberville Parish river on Monday evening died in a hospital on Tuesday. 

The Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office said the man was airlifted to a Baton Rouge hospital after first responders rescued him from the Upper Grand River. 

Sheriff Brett Stassi said the driver was on Belleview Drive near Jack Miller's Landing before crashing into the water around 8:45 p.m. Louisiana State Police identified the man as Michael Middleton, 77, of Plaquemine.

LSP said impairment is suspected as a factor in the crash.
