PLAQUEMINE — Iberville Federal Credit Union in Plaquemine was forced to close this week due to a nationwide computer system outage.

The financial institution announced Thursday that its core processing system, Sharetec, experienced a cooling infrastructure failure, forcing hundreds of credit unions around the country to close temporarily.

"There is still no word on the exact time the system will be back up and running. We are being told that with over 300 credit unions being affected by this outage they are still working around the clock to fix it and they are bringing the credit unions up in batches at a time," Iberville Federal Credit Union said on Facebook.

On its website, the credit union clarified that the issue is a service outage, not a security issue.
