LIVINGSTON PARISH — Two boats collided head-on on the Amite River, leaving one person in critical condition, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

The crash happened around 2:15 p.m. on Sunday.

One boat, occupied by a husband and wife, was heading upstream as another boat, occupied by a man, was coming downstream when they hit each other head-on.

The woman was airlifted to a Baton Rouge hospital with severe injuries and remains in critical condition. Her husband did not need medical treatment. 

The man driving the other boat was thrown from the vessel, but was wearing a kill switch and life jacket. He was pulled from the water by a bystander and also did not need medical treatment. 

The LDWF Enforcement Division is still investigating the crash.
