BATON ROUGE — Southern University announced it would have a modified schedule on Tuesday as the Baton Rouge campus continues to grapple with ongoing energy outage issues. 

Classes will be cancelled for students on Tuesday at Southern University Baton Rouge. Employees will work remotely. 

Classes and operations will conducted remotely for Southern University Law Center, and classes are canceled at Southern University Laboratory School. Employees will work remotely at Southern University AgCenter. 

"Crews continue to work to restore full and reliable power to the affected areas," the university wrote in a prepared statement. "For safety, please avoid areas where repair crews, generators and electrical equipment are operating and follow all instructions from University officials and emergency personnel."

Earlier in the day, the school announced that four residential facilities at Southern University were without power as repairs to the campus' transformer continue. 

University officials said residents who live in Bethune, Grandison, Reed and White halls can go to the school's event center or Horace W. Moody Intramural Center as crews install generators to the buildings. 

"We appreciate the patience and understanding of our students and campus community as crews continue working to fully restore service. Additional updates will be provided as information becomes available," the school said. 

The campus lost power Tuesday, Sept. 1 and classes had to be canceled. The school said the cause of that outage is still being assessed. 

On Sunday, Sept. 6, intermittent power outages affected the campus during transformer work.
