REPORT: Settlement with Exxon to allow SpaceX launch site to be built in Vermillion Parish
ABBEVILLE, La. - The dismissal of a coastal damages lawsuit brought by Vermilion Parish and the state of Louisiana against ExxonMobil is set to clear the way for SpaceX to build a rocket launch site in the parish, The Advocate reported.
SpaceX, billionaire Elon Musk’s commercial spaceflight company, is set to acquire the use of about 130,000 acres of land owned by the oil company in the parish. The company plans to build a rocket launch site similar to the one it has constructed near Brownsville, Texas.
The Advocate also reported that Gov. Jeff Landry's office sent invitations to hundreds of Louisiana public officials to an event in Abbeville next week at which he will announce the deal with SpaceX.
