BATON ROUGE — A 100-Day Transformation Initiative focused on a Baton Rouge neighborhood delivered a range of cleanup and infrastructure results, Mayor-President Sid Edwards announced Thursday.

The effort ran between May and August and targeted the area bordered by North Foster Drive, Addison Street, Winbourne Avenue and Ritterman Avenue.

"In our continuing fight against blight and to further our efforts to clean up Baton Rouge, we engaged residents, community partners and volunteers to invest time and resources to give this area the investment, attention and care it deserves," Edwards said. "I'm pleased to say that we made significant progress towards those goals."

According to Edwards, crews collected 26,000 pounds of debris and issued 74 blight citations to property owners for tall grass and neglected property.

All street lights in the area were upgraded with brighter LED fixtures and 96 additional street lights in the surrounding area received the same upgrade. Potholes were repaired and drainage was improved in nine areas.

Trees were trimmed and tall grass was mowed across 13 lots and public rights-of-way. On July 11, 63 volunteers collected 118 large bags of litter and cleared six drains in a two-hour period during a special Neighborhood Cleanup Day.

Baton Rouge Fire Department personnel also visited with residents about fire prevention and the importance of maintaining household fire alarms.
