DOJ election monitors to be in East Baton Rouge parish on Tuesday
BATON ROUGE - Federal election monitors will be stationed at polling places in East Baton Rouge, Orleans and Lafayette parishes on Tuesday, according to The Advocate.
The newspaper obtained a letter from the Voting Section of the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice, which said monitors will observe and take notes but will not interfere or intrude in the voting process.
The Advocate reported that two DOJ monitors will be in East Baton Rouge Parish.
A letter from Acting Deputy Attorney General Trent McCotter on Oct. 29 said that poll workers who did not properly preserve voting records for 22 months after an election could face criminal charges punishable by up to a year in prison and a $1,000 fine.
