SORRENTO — A 38-year-old man from Daytona Beach, Florida, died after being struck by a vehicle on Airline Highway near Frank Drive in Ascension Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.

LSP said that just before 8 p.m. on Thursday, a pickup truck was traveling north on Airline when it struck the pedestrian who was walking north in the left travel lane.

The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries. The driver of the Silverado was not wearing a seatbelt, but was not injured.

LSP said investigators are waiting for toxicology results to determine if either the driver or pedestrian was impaired.
