3 people displaced after fire along Byron Street, BRFD says
BATON ROUGE — Firefighters put out a house fire along Byron Street, with three people being displaced as a result of the blaze.
Baton Rouge Fire crews first responded around 10 p.m. on Wednesday to find smoke coming from the front of the home. Crews quickly searched the home and found the fire, putting it out.
The three adult occupants of the home were safe outside before firefighters arrived.
Darius Paul said he woke up and went to the kitchen for a drink of water when he smelled the smoke from the fire. He then went to wake his mother, who also lived in the house, to get her outside safely.
"When I did get her up to go outside, I saw half of the window, on the inside, in flames. So I went and grabbed the hose pipe and put some of it out," Paul told WBRZ the morning after the fire. "Then I had to call the fire department."
The cause of the fire was ruled to be electrical in nature, with investigators saying foul play is not suspected.
