NATALBANY - A 17-year-old from Killian died in a wreck in Tangipahoa Parish on Sunday.

According to State Police, the teen, identified as Willie Williams, failed to stop at the intersection of Greco and Natalbany roads around 5 p.m. on Nov. 1.

Troopers said the teen's car was hit on its passenger side by a truck. LSP said the driver was not wearing their seatbelt and was thrown from the car. They were taken to a hospital, where they died.

State Police said the driver and passenger of the truck suffered minor injuries.

The crash is still under investigation and toxicology samples have been collected.

Williams attended Springfield High School and was a member of the men's basketball team.

"We lost a great kid way too soon. Willie was a great teammate and will forever be a part of our Bulldog basketball family. Please keep the Bulldog family, along with Willie's family and loved ones, in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. Nothing can ever prepare you for a loss like this as a coach. Rest in peace, Willie," the team posted Monday.
