School closures announced ahead of January Arctic blast
With temperatures expected to drop into the 20s and struggle to reach the upper 30s next week, several schools have announced their closures in anticipation of icy roads and hazardous conditions. State and local offices have also announced closures.
Here is a list of schools that will remain closed after the MLK holiday:
Ascension Parish:
- Ascension Parish public schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
- Ascension Catholic Diocesan Regional School will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
Assumption Parish:
- All public schools in Assumption Parish, as well as district offices, will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
- St. Elizabeth School will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
East Baton Rouge Parish:
- East Baton Rouge Parish Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
- The City of Baker School System will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
- The Zachary Community School District will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
- All Central Community School System schools and offices will close Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
- Helix Community Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
- Multiple Catholic schools, including St. Joseph's Academy, Our Lady of Mercy, Redemptorist-St. Gerard, REACH Program, St. Jean Vianney, St. Jude the Apostle, St. Michael the Archangel Diocesan Regional School and St. Thomas More, will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
- Catholic High School's campus will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
- Redesign School Louisiana schools Dalton Elementary and Lanier Elementary will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
- EduCare Academy 1 and 2 will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
- Southern University Laboratory School will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
- Jehovah-Jireh Christian Academy and Learning Center will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
- Idea Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
- Louisiana School for the Deaf and Louisiana School for the Blind will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
- The Dunham School campus will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025.
- Episcopal School of Baton Rouge will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025. Middle and Upper School classes will be held virtually.
- Treasures from Heaven Childcare and Learning Center will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
East Feliciana Parish:
- East Feliciana Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
Iberville Parish:
- Iberville Parish Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.

- All Pointe Coupee Parish schools will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
West Feliciana Parish:
- West Feliciana Parish public schools will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
St. Helena Parish:
- St. Helena Parish public schools will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
St. Mary Parish:
- St. Mary Parish Schools will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 21 and Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025.
West Baton Rouge Parish:
- West Baton Rouge Parish Schools will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.
LSU, FranU and Southern are among universities that have cancelled in-person classes, with all three leaving it up to professors to decide if their classes will be remote or cancelled.
Outside of the capital area, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette will be operating remotely on Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 21 and 22, 2025.
