METAIRIE — A memorial will be held Wednesday at Archbishop Rummel High School for Shane Hirstius, who died over the weekend when he and his fiancé were involved in a fatal crash along Nicholson Drive near LSU.

Hirstius and Leah Fonte, both 21, were killed early Sunday morning after the crash.

Fonte and Hirstius, both from Metairie, got engaged in 2025 and were set to be married in March 2028. Hirstius was an operator and firefighter with the Third District Volunteer Fire Department, according to a post made online by the department. Fonte was an LSU student

Hirstius, a 2023 graduate of Rummel, will be honored during a prayer service at the school's Brother John Fairfax Rosary Prayer Garden on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The school asks attendees to pray for Hirstius and his family, including his brother, a current senior at Rummel.
