Landry signs new contract with OMV software vendor, could reduce wait times
BATON ROUGE - Gov. Landry announced he has signed a contract with a new OMV software vendor, he announced in a recent episode of his podcast Diner Days.
The new software, CHAMP, will "modernize driver's license renewals and vehicle registration services in Louisiana."
Matthew Boudreaux, the Louisiana OMV Deputy Commissioner, says the new software will look to shave down the foot traffic and long waits that residents face.
"We're hopeful that we can get you 5 to 10 minutes for a driver's license renewal, 5 to 10 minutes for a vehicle registration. So, this is going to speed up things. It's gonna also help us hire, train, and retain staff," he said.
Landry also said CHAMP should remove common DMV problems such as excessive processing times, fraud vulnerability, and manual entry errors.
The agreement between Louisiana and CHAMP will cost the state $54 million over a six-year term and will take two years to implement.
"As you know the past earlier this year, we've had some problems where our system was shutting down we were able to stabilize it, but it wasn't a long-term solution. This is a long-term solution. This is something that you know. Louisiana residents are gonna be happy to have as they come visit our offices in our offices " Bourdeaux said.
