Getting ahead of fall allergies before symptoms start is the key to managing the season, experts say.

"I usually tell my patients that fall allergy season starts right around Labor Day. So, when kids start going back to school, that is about the time that patients will start to feel more miserable from their allergies," Dr. Sandra Hong, an allergist, said.

Doctors recommend starting nasal steroid sprays before symptoms appear. Oral antihistamines can also be taken as needed throughout the season to relieve itching and sneezing.

Allergy symptoms tend to be worse on dry, windy days, so that is worth keeping in mind as the season gets underway.
