BATON ROUGE — Baton Rouge firefighters put out a fire caused by an unattended pot at an apartment along Stumberg Lane early Thursday morning.

According to BRFD, crews responded to the fire around 5:40 a.m. and found heavy smoke coming from the first floor of a two-story apartment building. When firefighters arrived, the occupants were outside and safe. 

Firefighters entered the apartment and attacked the fire in the kitchen, limiting the damage to that room. Despite this, the rest of the apartment had smoke and water damage, fire officials added.

Within 30 minutes, the fire was under control, with neighboring apartments not damaged.

Seven adults and two children were displaced by the blaze.
