LIVINGSTON - For the past 25 years, Livingston Parish Assessor Jeff Taylor has sponsored Assess the Need, a parish-wide school supply drive that helps needy families.

Nearly 3,200 students are expected to start the 2025-2026 school year without the supplies they need, their website explains.

Donations can be made in person starting Aug. 1 outside local grocery stores. Donations will be taken on Aug. 1 and Aug. 8 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., as well as Aug. 2 and Aug. 9 from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the following Associated Grocer stores:

- Carter’s Supermarkets in Denham Springs and Walker
- Cain’s Family Supermarkets in Livingston, Albany and Springfield
- Oak Point Fresh Market in Watson
- Village Markets in Port Vincent and Head of Island

Additionally, digital donations can be made via the group's Venmo, @Assess-The-Need-1.
